Since inception in 1954, JLFM
has provided the community with countless volunteer hours
and the 2005 equivalent to just under $1,000,000. For over
fifty years, our focus remains unchanged: to make Fargo-Moorhead
a better community. A few things we are working on in 2006-2007:
“Kids in the Kitchen”
“Kids in the Kitchen” is a new AJLI program which was initiated in April 2006. This project strives to address the urgent issues of childhood obesity and poor nutrition. Coordinated by the National Association, we need to raise awareness about childhood obesity and what our communities can accomplish to reverse the growth of this alarming development.
Education of both children and their families is key to alleviating this growing problem. JLFM will provide lessons and demonstrations related to preparation of healthy meals and snacks, as well as raise awareness of the solutions for childhood obesity.

Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity/Women Build
Women Build is a Habitat International program that encourages women and girls to make a difference building homes and communities. Women-built projects provide an opportunity for women to learn construction in a supportive environment and to address the problem of sub-standard housing and its effects on the health and well-being of children.
A build is planned for the fall of 2007. The Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity Women Build project will cost approximately $70,000. Lowe’s Home Improvement is the national underwriter. JLFM is proud to be a part of this build in the planning and execution stages.
“The Junior League of Fargo-Moorhead
has made is possible for over 560,000 children and families
to experience one of the country’s top recognized
children’s museums. We are very grateful for the
continued support of Junior League and the foresight
and dedication that made our opening possible.”
